You need to know that designing interfaces requires immense creativity, which, if utilized properly, can lead to the creation of very interesting and modern products. Web design allows for a greater degree of creative freedom compared to, for example, wearable design.

Let’s define creativity

If I were to explain what creativity itself is, I would describe it as the ability to create something new. However, creativity is much more than that because it allows for the creation of captivating products. It is through creativity that the world is constantly evolving, and it helps us find solutions to various problems and make our lives easier. To produce new solutions or products, the process of creative thinking must occur, leading to the development of original, practical, and intriguing solutions.

Where to find inspiration?

To keep your projects fresh, you must not forget to leverage web design trends. Through trends, you can positively influence how your project is received by clients and your target audience. Trends should serve as a guide, but we must not blindly follow them, as an excessive number of trends can overwhelm users, making the design too intrusive.

Copying won’t work, get inspired

Trends are essential in design, and drawing inspiration from them allows for the creation of interesting and original projects. However, you must be cautious about copying. Another project should serve as a guide and direction for you. Analyze, browse, search through different projects, and then create your own designs, avoiding simply copying others’ ideas.

Design Trends

Technology is constantly advancing, providing us with newer possibilities for creating creative projects. We are regularly presented with new innovations and yearly trends that shape the directions in design. Some trends are evolutionary results of previous inventions, while others present revolutionary changes in approach.

Why are web design trends so important?

You must remember that utilizing design trends can help meet users’ needs. When searching for trends to incorporate into your design, you should ask questions and evaluate which trends will bring the most benefits and be most suited to your users. While analyzing examples and drawing inspiration, keep in mind that not every trend will suit your target audience. Base your choices on thorough analysis rather than just following the latest fads. Also, remember that web design is very dynamic in terms of trends, so new fads might question your work. Adding every new idea is not the best solution and can burden your projects.

Current trends worth knowing

Half of the year 2023 is already behind us, what trends were prevalent in 2022 and recently?

Minimalism in a new form

In 2022/23, minimalism was omnipresent — and for a good reason, as there is nothing more aesthetically pleasing than a simple, clear interface. However, in its new form, minimalism has taken a step further, incorporating bold, vivid, bright colors, and ample space (space is crucial as it allows our designs to adapt easily to the screens they are displayed on). This approach has made minimalist projects more engaging and capable of capturing our attention quickly by highlighting the most important elements. Nevertheless, not every project will work in conjunction with vibrant colors. Remember that you must consider your audience when designing, and sometimes, sticking to a more subtle design might be more appropriate.

Animations and micro-animations

The trend of animations continues to evolve, but I am not referring to overwhelming the entire page with animated elements. I mean those subtle details that are well-suited to the project. Animations can be applied not only to illustrations but also to icons and other elements. Ensure that the motion in the animation is delicate and refined. You do not necessarily have to use full-screen or interactive animations; instead, integrate them with the elements of the page, making them an illustration that complements the entire concept or content.

3D Graphics

This trend has been a constant in interface design. 3D projects help hold the user’s attention, thanks to realistic images — shapes with volume that extend beyond the screen can be mesmerizing. This trend is not new, especially when it comes to animated models, but it can be interestingly used, for example, by combining 2D and 3D worlds that complement each other, providing clear contrasts and a complete change in the approach to this concept.

Interactive Engagement

Individual elements in projects are meant to communicate with the audience, taking into account knowledge of human psychology and physiological behavior. With the advancement of technology, the number of interactions between humans and digital products has increased. These interactions are meant to stimulate all human senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste, and kinesthesia. Through this trend, users can connect with the product and experience genuine sensations. When presenting a highly realistic product, you can rotate the object, view it from different angles, zoom in on details, choose size, model, and color.

Dark Mode

Dark mode has become a timeless trend, and designing in line with it offers users several benefits, including:

  • Saving battery life for devices with OLED or AMOLED screens
  • Enhanced readability
  • Reduced eye strain during nighttime device use
  • Minimization of blue light exposure

Aurora Backgrounds

This trend allows for highlighting the entire background or specific elements. It involves blurred, colorful, yet subtle splashes of colors, creating a friendly and attractive look.

Glassmorphism

The elegance added by glassmorphism is incredible — this effect can even give a sense of relief. Glassmorphism allows users to comprehend the depth and hierarchy of the interface. This trend is not only used by major players such as Mac OS and Windows but also by application designers.

Web Design in Augmented Reality

This trend expands the possibilities of what a website can offer.

User-Centric Web Design

This trend resonates with me the most, as users should always be at the forefront of our design process. It is through accessibility that our products become more user-friendly. Techniques such as incorporating keywords, voice search, or virtual reality can be employed.

In conclusion, web design requires immense creativity, and creating interesting and non-replicative projects is often a lengthy process. As designers, we must stay up-to-date with trends, which will allow us to create world-class projects. However, we must remember not to blindly use trends, as an excess of them can lead to oversaturation and chaos. Instead, use them as guidelines and signposts in design to help you create projects tailored to your audience.
